Research in ischemic stroke focuses on the prevention, treatment and recovery from strokes that occur following a sudden blockage of the arteries supplying the brain.
There are almost 800,000 strokes each year in the U.S., which is the leading cause of neurological mortality and disability worldwide. Some of the questions our faculty address include:
- How can we improve the care of patients treated with endovascular thrombectomy?
- What genetic risk factors predispose patients to develop stroke?
- Can new treatments prevent brain edema?
- Can neurotechnology help with recovery after a stroke?
