All children can be at risk of an accidental window fall. Children under 5 age and boys have the highest risk of an accidental window fall.
Most accidental window falls happen during the spring and summer. People are more likely to open their windows in warmer weather.
Accidental window falls are also more likely to happen during meal times. This might be because parents and supervising adults are busy preparing meals while children play.
Most accidental window falls do not lead to death, but they can lead to serious injuries. If your child does fall out of a window, landing on a softer surface, such as a flower bed or bush, can help cushion the fall.
If your child does fall out of a window and is seriously injured, call 911 right away.
