How to Transfer or Transport a Patient
Pediatric Access Line
Call the Mass General for Children Pediatric Access Line to coordinate the transfer or transport of a patient.
Emergent Transfers
Emergent transfers for both the Neonatal and the Pediatric patient are facilitated by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, respectively. The Access Line can seamlessly connect you to the intensive care unit you choose. Access to our Emergency Department is possible by pressing option 4. The ER Access Nurse will start the referral process and connect you to our Pediatric ER Attending.
Transferring the Stable Patient
Our access line will also facilitate the transfer of the stable patient. The 3rd option in the menu will connect you to a pediatric transfer specialist. The transfer specialist will connect you to the admitting Hospitalist for acceptance. This Access Line enables you to transfer your patient through the use of one phone call.
24-Hour Access to Pediatric Specialist
Our Neonatal and Pediatric Transport programs provide 24-hour access to both the NICU and PICU. Special Services available in the intensive care units include nitric oxide, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a full complement of pediatric surgical specialties.
Boston MedFlight
We also coordinate trauma and other emergent transports with Boston MedFlight providing helicopter services from all over central New England directly to the helipad at Mass General for Children.
