Department Chief Mitchel Harris, MD, Receives Physician’s Achievement Award from the Arthritis Foundation
Mitchel Harris, MD, orthopedic trauma surgeon and Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mass General, recently received the Dr. Marian Ropes Physician's Achievement Award for Patient Excellence from the Arthritis Foundation at their 2023 "Commitment to a Cure" gala. A committee of medical leaders selected Dr. Harris for the award based on his outstanding career dedicated to helping patients and their families impacted by arthritis.
The Arthritis Foundation "is boldly pursuing a cure for America’s #1 cause of disability while championing the fight to conquer arthritis with life-changing science, resources, advocacy and community connections." Each year, the Foundation gives the Dr. Marian Ropes Physician's Achievement Award for Patient Excellence to one orthopaedic surgeon and one rheumatologist for their contributions to arthritis care.
Dr. Harris shares that he is "humbled and honored" by this Award, noting that compassionate care for arthritis patients of all ages has been a key offering of Mass General Brigham throughout his career, and that he and his colleagues in orthopaedic surgery are proud to offer the latest in surgical and nonsurgical treatments for those suffering with the condition. "We are constantly discussing and reviewing arthritis cases at Mass General, to make sure we are all working together to advance the field of arthroscopy and provide the expert joint care patients expect from our institution."
