Chaitanya Mudgal, MD, Selected as AO North America Educator of the Year
Chaitanya Mudgal, MD, hand and arm orthopaedic surgeon, recently was selected as the AO North America Jesse Jupiter Educator of the Year. Dr. Mudgal was selected for this award because of his outstanding contributions and dedication to teaching physicians in all levels of their training and career.
Dr. Mudgal has lectured extensively on different aspects of upper limb trauma throughout the world. He has taught master’s level courses in Switzerland, the United States, China, India, Oman, Switzerland, UK, Venezuela, Guatemala, Ecuador and South Korea, in addition to lecturing across India. He also established a hand surgery conference (Annual IndoUS Hand Surgery Conference) that has been held at various sites in India for the past seven years. Dr. Mudgal and his wife, Sharmila Kudav, MD, set up an educational foundation (Kudav-Mudgal Foundation), which sponsors the IndoUS Hand Surgery conference and a visitor program to bring one young hand surgeon from India to train at Mass General for three months at a time. He also has an eponymously named conference, the Annual C S Mudgal Hand Surgery Forum held at the Guigang City Peoples Hospital in Guangxi, China.
In addition to working with medical students, residents and fellows, Dr. Mudgal has dedicated his career to teaching other physicians. Congratulations, Dr. Mudgal, on being selected for this award.
