Harvard Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship

Overview

The Harvard Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship was begun by Jon J.P. Warner, MD, in 1999 to offer the next generation of clinicians access to regional, national, and international shoulder and elbow experts. Program fellows engage in faculty-led, cutting-edge research, clinical consultation sessions and physician mentorship and professional development.

Two to three Harvard Shoulder & Elbow Fellows are selected each year in December through the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) fellowship match. Visit The Boston Shoulder Institute for more information.

Requirements

We are affiliated with the ASES Match Program. We require an ASES application, CV, Personal Statement and three letters of recommendation. Candidates from the United States must be able to obtain medical licensure in Massachusetts. Candidates from outside the United States must have an H-Visa and be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in Massachusetts.

Curriculum

Our teaching mission is to develop excellent shoulder and elbow surgeons who will provide high quality care that addresses both routine and complex joint problems. Regardless of the career path our fellows take, our program goal is to foster an inquisitive, open mind and instill a thoughtful, analytic approach to patient care. We work to establish our fellows as part of the global academic shoulder community. Fellows will not only have the opportunity to learn from us here at Harvard Medical School and Mass General, but also from the leading shoulder and elbow experts across Europe.

• Bioskills, biomechanics and cell biology in the laboratory of Augustus "Gus" D. Mazzocca, MD, a first-of-its-kind sports medicine and shoulder innovation collaborative at Mass General
• Prospective database outcome studies
• Shoulder simulator (VR) training to improve arthroscopic skill
