Here's what to expect during your visit to the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Your First Visit
When you arrive, please check in with the receptionist. You will find it helpful to bring a date book or calendar to keep track of your appointments and tests. Also, we encourage you to bring someone with you. At your first visit, you will also be given a new patient brochure.
Ideally, you will know in advance the duration of your visit. We make every effort to keep to the schedule, but unforeseen delays do occur. You may be asked to complete paperwork while you are waiting for your provider. Otherwise, please have a seat in our waiting room until your name is called. Please note that we do have multiple clinical services on our unit and some patients may be seen in a different order than their arrival.
After your appointment, please check out with the secretary and schedule your next appointment or tests, if needed.
Subsequent Visits
To change your appointment for any reason please call the office at 617-726-3906 as early as possible, but at least 24 hours in advance.
Office Hours
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm.
Insurance and Payment
At each office visit, you will be asked to provide your Mass General Medical Record Number, your insurance card, your referral – if your insurance is an HMO/PPO – and your co-payment, if applicable. We accept cash, check and Visa or MasterCard.
Registration
All Mass General patients must have a Mass General Medical Record Number (MRN). You may register at Patient Registration on the first floor of the Wang Building, next to the outpatient pharmacy, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Remember to bring all of your insurance cards with you. You may also register by phone by calling Patient Registration at 866-211-6588. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-8:00 pm.
Referrals
Some patients seen in our practice (except for the GID/STD clinic) need a referral from their primary care provider. Please consult with your insurance carrier prior to your appointment. If a referral is needed but not obtained, you will be responsible for payment. If you have questions about obtaining insurance or need financial services, please speak to one of our office staff.
