Workshops

Introduction to Neurodiversity in the Workplace

"Neurodiversity" is a broad term used to describe individuals with disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, and  learning differences such as dyslexia. Historically, workplaces have struggled to appropriately support neurodivergent individuals. Neurodiversity-affirming practices in hiring and retention can increase the diversity of your workforce and, in turn, promote improved outcomes in ingenuity and productivity. This foundational training will provide participants with a deeper understanding of neurodiversity and concrete practices to design and maintain accessible, inclusive, and high-performing workplaces.

Inclusive Hiring Practices

Traditional interviews rely heavily on social competency, which often puts neurodivergent candidates at a disadvantage and overshadows their potential skillset. This workshop will provide a more inclusive (and progressive) framework and recommendations for recruitment, hiring, and on-boarding. Content will include how to build a personalized interview guide that can be distributed to candidates to make the screening and interview process more accessible.

Executive Functioning in Action: An Overview

This workshop offers an overview of essential executive functioning vocabulary, focusing on the skills needed for independent task management including initiation, follow-through, prioritizing, and time management. Practical tools and strategies to help neurodivergent individuals meet the organizational requirements of their workplace roles successfully and independently will also be provided.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Management and Supervision Practices

Aspire consultants will provide best practices for managing and supervising neurodivergent employees. Topics include strategies to enhance perspective taking, organization and task follow-through, environmental accessibility, and self-regulation support.

Inclusive Team Communication and Collaboration

Heterogeneous teams have recognizable benefits and require the investment of time and energy to build effective communication and collaboration practices. Aspire consultants will share recommendations for how teams should approach communication to promote greater clarity and comprehension. Tools and strategies will emphasize improving the group work process.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Workplace Culture

Neurodivergent individuals experience the world differently. Socially, they may struggle to understand and follow unwritten social rules and norms. Additionally, challenges with stress and anxiety management and sensory processing may impact an individual’s performance. Neurodiversity-affirming workplaces recognize these barriers and actively incorporate more inclusive practices in communication, task structure, and environmental design to create a productive and comfortable workplace for all employees. This workshop will provide recommendations for how to develop an inclusive culture across all settings and roles.

Self-Advocacy and Disclosure

Self-advocacy is critical for success in the workplace. Advocating for one’s needs may or may not require an individual to disclose a diagnostic label. For many neurodivergent individuals, the experience of disclosing a diagnosis can depend on the response of the receiver. Guidance will be provided on how to prepare for, deliver, and respond to conversations about self-advocacy, including disclosure, in the work environment.

Sensory Processing in the Workplace

Neurodivergent individuals can experience sensitivity to their environment. Inclusive environments provide structured systems for individuals to advocate for and receive environmental modifications and accommodations to create the most productive and comfortable workplace for all employees. This workshop will provide recommendations for how to approach sensory supports and strategies for both in-person and remote workplaces.

Supporting Social Competency and Emotional Regulation in the Workplace

Neurodivergent individuals may have difficulty following the unspoken social routines and norms of a workplace. Stress and anxiety management and sensory processing may further impact an individual’s presentation and productivity at work. This workshop will provide recommendations for how workplaces can develop a social culture that is inclusive and accessible for all individuals.
