Haytham Kaafarani, MD, MPH, FACS is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, the Medical Director of Hospital Quality and Safety and the Trauma Medical Director at MGH. He is a leading surgeon-scientist with more than 450 published peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters. His large and diverse research team uses health services research methodologies and artificial intelligence technology to advance the science of risk prediction as well as quality and safety in surgery. He is the recipient of numerous academic awards including a nomination to the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Wears Patient Safety Leadership Award, a leader in national societies and an invited national and international speaker. His clinical expertise is focused on caring for 4 types of patients: trauma, emergency and elective general surgery, critically ill and complex wound patients.
