About Matthew Bartek, MD, MPH

I am a board-certified general surgeon, critical care physician, and palliative care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and Salem Hospital. I grew up in the Boston area and feel fortunate to be able to service this community—my home community—as part of an incredible, multi-disciplinary team. Thank you for your interest in me and my team.

My patient care philosophy is simple: I treat my patients and their families as I do my own family and I am eager to advocate for them to find the right solution to improve their health. As a surgeon and critical care provider, this means openly discussing surgical and non-surgical options and helping to decide on the right path. As a palliative care physician, this means maintaining a focus on quality of life, symptom mitigation, and clarity of what is most important.

My personal interests include finding ways to make my children laugh and learn (sometimes at the same time), exploring local bakeries with my wife and friends, road cycling, skiing, and the outdoors.
