Research

Dr. Kwon is dedicated to investigating orthopaedic problems and finding solutions that achieve the best outcome for his patients. He has more than 180 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Kwon's expertise in hip and knee replacements is recognized with invited presentations at national and international scientific meetings. For Dr. Kwon's research investigating adverse reactions in metal-on-metal joint replacements, he has received the Kappa Delta Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Since their inception in 1947, the Kappa Delta Awards are bestowed by the Academy for outstanding research in orthopaedic surgery that is of the highest significance and impact. Additionally, Dr. Kwon was awarded the prestigious John Charnley Award from The Hip Society.

Dr. Kwon is the Director of the Bioengineering Laboratory as well as the Mass General Center for Metal-on-Metal Hip & Tribocorrosion Evaluation & Treatment.

Dr Kwon said because [redacted] that surgery would be extremely difficult and risky. I understand that but was not given any explanation as to what would happen if I were to fall and break the hip or if there would be a possibility to use a longer stem. [redacted] I know I was in shock when I got the news but he just ended and left. [redacted]

Yes, he's a very good doctor because I have arthritis, and then I did that, they could not find my x-ray. He did the x-ray for me, and then also, he also informed me that I'm a diabetic patient. MY guess is that he is a good surgeon, but lacks a friendly bedside manner. [redacted] To me replacing a hip is a big deal, to him it seemed just common. It would help to have him help me understand that it is safe.
