The U.S. health care sector is responsible for a substantial amount of environmental pollution with negative impacts on planetary and human health. This presentation provides information on the sources of this pollution using a recent carbon footprint of the Mass General Brigham system, and demonstrates how clinical activities can drive pollution and represent opportunities for improvement. Two examples relevant to internal medicine are highlighted, including single use vs. reusable products and low carbon asthma care.
