About Deeba Husain, MD

Deeba Husain, M.D. is a full-time member of the Mass. Eye and Ear Retina Service and the site director of Mass. Eye and Ear Retina Consultants located at 1 Montvale Ave. in Stoneham. She is a vitreoretinal specialist and certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She also directs the Medical Retina (Boston) and International Retina fellowships. 

Dr. Husain attended medical school at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh, India. In 1995, she joined the Department of Ophthalmology at Mass. Eye and Ear to conduct post-doctoral research in photodynamic therapy and age-related macular degeneration with Evangelos Gragoudas, M.D. and Joan W. Miller, M.D., FARVO. She subsequently completed ophthalmology residency training at Harvard Medical School, followed by subspecialty training as a vitreoretinal fellow at Mass. Eye and Ear. Before joining Mass. Eye and Ear, Dr. Husain was at Boston University School of Medicine, where she served as Director of the Retina Service and Director of the retina fellowship training program.

Research

Dr. Husain is a clinician scientist who is involved in evaluating the pathogenesis of, and newer treatments for, macular degeneration. She has worked with a preclinical primate model of experimental choroidal neovascularization and has studied the safety and efficacy of photodynamic therapy and antiVEGF agents in this model. In addition, she has worked on the role of PLC gamma 1 in the pathogenesis of experimental choroidal neovascularization. At Mass. Eye and Ear, she is collaborating with investigators in the Angiogenesis Laboratory who are elucidating the role of complements in macular degeneration and retinal detachment. She also is involved in clinical trials of new therapies for retinal diseases.

Every time I have ever gone to the office with Dr. Deeba Husain, all the people in that office, the technicians, everybody, including and especially Dr. Husain, have been very professional, very helpful, and I feel I received excellent care any time I have gone there.
