About the Cutaneous Biology Research Center
Our mission is to enhance the scientific understanding of fundamental biological processes that underlie the formation and homeostasis of the skin and its appendages.
The Cutaneous Biology Research Center (CBRC) was established in 1989 by an agreement between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Shiseido Company Limited of Japan. Originally for a period of 10 years, it was extended in 1998 to 2009 and has been amended multiple times to extend to the present day.
The CBRC maintains an intellectual environment conducive to collaboration, and is staffed with principal investigators of the highest quality who study fundamental biological processes in mammalian skin, in other mammalian tissues or in model organisms.
Such a combination of principal investigators in an environment compatible with academic freedom and conducive to collaborative efforts accelerates progress towards achieving the CBRC's mission.
It is desirable that the research carried out at the CBRC will be used for applications such as the development of novel therapies, diagnostics, clinical procedures, pharmaceuticals or other products for the maintenance of healthy skin.
We work with academic, medical, and industrial partners to disseminate the fruits of our fundamental research to patients.
