Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Dermatology
Mass General Dermatology Laser and Cosmetic Center
We are conveniently located in Boston's West End at 50 Staniford Street. A consultation is required to ensure your satisfaction.
Choosing the Right Cosmetic Center
There are many cosmetic centers that offer cosmetic services, ranging from spas and salons to world-class medical centers. It can be overwhelming to decide which place is best fits your needs. Choosing an experienced doctor to perform your treatments is important to ensure your safety and satisfaction. Lasers in the wrong hands can cause damage to the skin.
Choosing a Cosmetic Treatment That Is Right for You
The choice of a particular treatment depends on you.
What are your goals?
What is your skin color?
What is your lifestyle?
Is it easier to have one treatment that requires a few days of recovery or multiple treatments with minimal downtime?
What are the risks of the treatment?
Our Laser and Cosmetic Center is not a one-size-fits-all center. Our physicians have more than 45 laser and light sources on site as well as an an array of the latest injectables and dermal fillers. The choice of device and treatment is tailored for you. Our physicians are trained to evaluate your skin at the time of treatment to optimize results.
Although there are numerous brand names, most cosmetic treatments fall into these categories:
- Target therapies for issues such as redness, brown spots, birthmarks, scars, fat, wrinkles, and hair
- Rejuvenation therapies that tighten the skin and improve the overall look of the skin
- Volumizing therapies that restore age-related loss of facial volume
Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Treatments
How do I choose a cosmetic dermatologist?
Cosmetic dermatology is a specialty that focuses on the appearance of skin and hair. Cosmetic dermatologists use several treatment methods, including lasers and minimally invasive procedures to help restore the look and feel of your skin.
Ask whether the doctor is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive training, and whether he or she has received comprehensive laser safety training.
What should I ask the person providing my cosmetic treatments?
1. Is the person performing the treatment board-certified with extensive training?
2. How long has the doctor been performing cosmetic procedures?
3. How many lasers and light sources does the center have on site? (No one laser can treat all conditions, so having an array of lasers on site allows your doctor to create a specialized treatment to meet your goals.)
What makes the Mass General Laser and Cosmetic Center different?
Our board-certified dermatologists are fortunate to have a variety of lasers and the latest cosmetic therapies on site, allowing our doctors to create a personalized and safe treatment plan for you. Treatments are performed in our office. Most treatments are available with little to no downtime to allow you to return to your everyday lives almost immediately.
Why do I need a consultation?
Our doctors evaluate your overall health conditions, your specific skin type, and any concerns that you may have. They will discuss the risks and benefits of treatments. They provide realistic expectations and offer the best possible treatment to meet your goals. A consultation is required and there is a consultation fee.
