Cancer Center Researchers Included on Highly Cited Researchers 2021 List

Mass General Cancer Center physician-scientists Shawn Demehri, MD, PhD, Areej El-Jawahri, MD, and Sara Pai, MD, PhD have been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) as part of ASCI's new class of members for 2022.
The ASCI seeks to support the scientific efforts, educational needs, and clinical aspirations of physician-scientists to improve the health of all people. Founded in 1908, the ASCI is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected nonprofit medical honor societies and is focused on the special role of physician-scientists in research, clinical care, and medical education.
Shawn Demehri, MD, PhD is a board-certified dermatologist and a principal investigator at the Center for Cancer Immunology and Cutaneous Biology Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Demehri is a physician-scientist performing basic science and translational research in the area of cancer immunology related to melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
Areej El-Jawahri, MD is an oncologist specializing in the care of patients with hematologic malignancies and those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Dr. El-Jawahri's research interests include investigating patient-reported outcomes, enhancing patient-centered decision-making interventions, and designing supportive care interventions to improve the care of patients with hematologic malignancies with a special emphasis on patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Sara Pai, MD, PhD is a surgical oncologist and director of translational research in head and neck cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Pai's research interests focus on better understanding how HPV can evade the immune system and strategies that can be applied to reactivate the host immune response against the virus through vaccines and immune modulatory drugs.
New ASCI members will be officially inducted and recognized on Friday, April 8, at the ASCI Dinner and New Member Induction Ceremony.
