About Zeba Ahmad, PhD
Dr. Ahmad is a staff psychologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry, and an Instructor in Psychology at the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry. She primarily treats anxiety disorders and depression, specializing in working with individuals coping with cancer or other chronic illnesses. Dr. Ahmad has formal training and experience in providing evidence-based therapies including Interpersonal Therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy. She integrates these tools to support people from diverse backgrounds and identities in finding acceptance and pursuing meaning despite their health challenges. In addition to treating general anxiety, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, insomnia, depression, and other disorders, Dr. Ahmad also provides targeted therapy for health-related quality-of-life concerns such as coping with physical pain and fatigue, addressing disruptions in intimacy/sexuality, and treating traumatic and prolonged grief in caregivers. She offers individual, couples’, and group-based psychotherapy. She has worked in a range of healthcare settings, including with individuals undergoing treatment for infertility, those with inflammatory bowel disease, those in treatment for morbid obesity, memory disorders, and other chronic health concerns.

Research
Dr. Ahmad's research uses quantitative, qualitative, and intervention development methods to understand and address the impact of chronic physical illness on mental health. Dr. Ahmad conducts research at the Health Promotion and Resiliency Intervention Research (HPRIR) Center, the Cancer Outcomes Research and Education (CORE) Program, and the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program at MGH. She has served as principal investigator on two funded qualitative studies investigating young adults' emotion, cognition, and problem-solving regarding cancer survivorship. Currently, Dr. Ahmad is working on research to understand and treat post-traumatic stress associated with physical illness. She aims to develop a program of research in applying evidence-based intervention strategies to improve mental health among young adults with cancer.
