As a behavioral researcher, my area of excellence is designing and testing behavioral interventions for medical populations, with a primary focus on integrating systems-based behavioral interventions into oncology settings. I am Director of the Health Promotion and Resiliency Intervention Research Program. I currently direct the behavioral research for the MGH Tobacco Research & Treatment Center, the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, and the MGH Cancer Survivorship Program. I also have expertise in developing and analyzing qualitative research to inform behavioral intervention and survey development and direct the Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research Unit for the MGH Division of Clinical Research. My clinical work focuses on cancer survivorship. Please see the links below for more information.

I currently direct the behavioral research for the MGH Tobacco Research & Treatment Center, the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine and the MGH Cancer Survivorship Program. The contributions of my skills are reflected in my collaborations, funding and over 200 peer-reviewed publications. I have led numerous externally funded research projects, most of which have involved applications of mixed methods research. An American Cancer Society training grant is supporting my research examining risk perceptions of individuals undergoing lung cancer screening. With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, I examined the effect of depression and anxiety on postpartum relapse to smoking. I received a grant for the Livestrong Foundation to conduct a national survey among childhood cancer survivors to examine the quality of their health insurance coverage. I then conducted a multicenter RCT to compare the effectiveness of integrating an intensive counseling plus pharmacological intervention vs. a brief counseling intervention. With proven efficacy for the intensive treatment, I secured NCI funding to conduct an effectiveness implementation trial, bringing a Video-based tobacco intervention into NCI-affiliated community cancer centers nationwide. I received an NCI R01 and am conducting a study integrating a telehealth delivery tobacco treatment intervention Mass General Brigham-wide to patients undergoing lung screening. I received ACS funding to develop a patient navigator intervention to assist childhood survivors of adult cancers to obtain and utilize health insurance. At the Benson-Henry Institute of Mind-Body Medicine I developed an evidence-based resiliency treatment program that we are administering to a variety of patient and provider populations.
