About David Hao, MD

Dr. Hao is a double board-certified anesthesiologist and chronic pain physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he also serves as the Director of the MGH Cancer Pain Program. He specializes in both acute and chronic pain management. 

He completed his anesthesia residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and his chronic pain management fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His clinical interests include neuromodulation, minimally invasive spine interventions, cancer pain, ultrasonography, and regional anesthesia. 

Dr. Hao's research focuses on the application of multimedia to enhance medical education and improve patient care quality and safety. He has received multiple awards, including the MGH Patient Safety Star, the Donald P. Todd MGH Pain Center Award, the Carl E. Rosow Evidence-Based Medicine Award, and the inaugural Resident Quality and Safety Leadership Award. His work has been published in prestigious journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. As an advocate for evidence-based medicine, Dr. Hao hosts the Depth of Anesthesia podcast, where he critically examines clinical dogmas by exploring the literature.
