Specialist Appointments
MGH Back Bay offers onsite specialty services for diabetes care, mental health and physiatry. Should you need it, your MGH Back Bay primary care physician can also refer you to a specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital or Mass General for Children.
Emergency Physician Coverage
MGH Back Bay has a physician on call for emergencies after business hours and on weekends. Please call 617-267-7171 to reach the physician on call. Patients with life-threatening emergencies should call 911.
Lab Work and Tests
Our lab is open on Monday to Friday from 8:30 am – 12:15 pm and 1:15 pm – 4:30 pm, and is closed from 12:15 pm – 1:15 pm. Results are typically available within 48 hours through Patient Gateway or by mail within two weeks.
Please remember some results can take several days or even weeks to return to your provider. Pap smears can take over a month to be finalized. Your provider may wait until all results are returned before sending you the results.
You may have your blood tests done at Mass General or any of our affiliated labs.
Please remember to bring your ID and insurance information each time you have your blood drawn. If your primary care physician is not affiliated with Mass General, you will also need to bring your blood work requisitions (physician orders).
Nurse Visits
Our on-site triage nurses can speak with you between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. If you have a medical question or concern that you would like your doctor to be aware of, in the interim, the Triage nurses can offer suggestions to relieve minor symptoms at home or answer questions about your child’s health. To contact our nurses, please use your Patient Gateway for non-urgent issues or call the front desk to leave the nurse a message and you will receive a return call.
Our new medical record system has streamlined your options for prescription refills. Please call your pharmacy first, if you need a refill, they will contact our office electronically. You may also request a refill via Patient Gateway as well. Please be aware that this can take up to 48 hours to fill, depending on your physicians availability.
Please plan ahead for your prescription needs. We ask that you do not call the on-call physician after hours to refill a prescription.
