2023 Marcela del Carmen, MD Keynote: “If me, then you: Attaining leadership through growth opportunities”

Joanne Wolfe, MD MPH is the Chair of Pediatrics at MassGeneral for Children and the Chair of Pediatrics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She previously served as the Division of Pediatric Palliative Care in the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Director of Palliative Care at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) for nearly 30 years. She also served as the Vice President for Faculty Development at the Dana-Farber. She is Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She holds an MD degree (1990) from Harvard Medical School and an MPH (1998) from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr Wolfe’s research is focused on easing suffering and promoting wellbeing in children with serious illness and their families. She also co-directs the Multinational Pediatric Palliative Care Research Network.

2022 Keynote Address: "From the Nile to the Charles River"

Dr. Nawal Nour holds the Kate Macy Ladd Professorship at Harvard Medical School and is the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she is also the Founding Director of the African Women’s Health Center. She previously served as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Faculty, Trainees, and Students; Director of Ambulatory Obstetrics & Gynecology; and Director of Global Obstetrics and Gynecologic Health.

After attending Brown University Dr. Nour received her MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital before completing an MPH at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Nour has been named one of Forbes 40 Women to Watch Over 40. Her research concentrates on health and policy issues related to female genital cutting (FGC) while her practice provides care to women who have undergone this practice. For her establishment of the African Women’s Health Center, the only hospital center in the US that focuses on supporting the physical and emotional needs of those who have undergone FGC, Dr. Nour has been honored as a MacArthur Foundation Fellow. She  received honorary doctorate degrees from Bowdoin College and Williams College for her community work and outreach. Dr. Nour is the recipient of the American Medical Women’s Association Lila A. Wallis Women’s Health Award.

Dr. Nour presently serves on the Board of Trustees at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is a Board Trustee and Secretary of the World Peace Foundation.  She sits on the Board of Registration in Medicine and the Governor’s Task Force on Hate Crime. She also serves as a Congress Chair for the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO).
