The Bastepe Lab investigates the pathophysiology of human disorders caused by alterations in G protein signaling and GPCR actions. We are primarily interested in endocrine and musculoskeletal diseases.
Murat Bastepe, MD, PhD, FACMG discovered the genetic basis of several diseases of bone and mineral metabolism, including pseudohypoparathyroidism, type 1b. He studies the regulation of the imprinted GNAS gene and the functions of its gene products. His research also entails the roles of G proteins in the synthesis and actions of calciotropic hormones, including FGF23.
