New Program Offers Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery for Patients with Gastric Cancer

Dr. Sophia K. McKinley is a surgical oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital with a focus on caring for patients with melanoma, gastric, and liver cancers. She has a particular interest in robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery for gastric, liver, and other intra-abdominal tumors.
Dr. McKinley graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School with honors in medical education. She also holds a Master of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. After completing the MGH General Surgery Residency Program, Dr. McKinley went on to attain advanced surgical training in complex general surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is dual board-certified in both general surgery and complex general surgical oncology.
Dr. McKinley’s primary academic interest is surgical education. She has completed several surgical education fellowships through the MGH Department of Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and the Association for Surgical Education. She holds committee memberships in several national surgical societies related to surgical education.
In addition to caring for patients as a surgical oncologist, Dr. McKinley serves on the MGH surgical education leadership team as the Harvard Medical School Surgery clerkship site director and associate director of the MGH Surgical Education Research Group.
