New Additions to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2022
In 2022, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomed six new physicians to their team.
Dr. Ryan Lohre is a shoulder, elbow and scapular (shoulder blade) orthopaedic surgeon with special interests in advanced reconstructions and incorporating new technologies to help his patients achieve their functional goals.
Dr. Lohre completed his medical degree and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He completed the Harvard Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital with Dr. JP Warner and Dr. Bassem Elhassan prior to beginning his practice.
Ryan works to create an open, inclusive care environment by fostering meaningful connections with patients and colleagues. His research and clinical practice focus on improving the orthopedic patient experience and sharing knowledge broadly through formal and informal educational strategies.
Dr. Lohre is passionate about research and focuses his studies on novel reconstructive treatments, surgical outcomes, and the use of advanced technologies in orthopaedic surgery. He is regarded as a world expert on extended reality technologies in orthopaedics including immersive virtual reality. He has won numerous international awards for his work and teaching protocols. He is an editorial board member and journal reviewer of his peers for multiple scientific publications.

Dr. Lohre has a special research interest in both the shoulder and scapula. He focuses his research on the surgical outcomes of open and arthroscopic procedures, developing new evaluations and treatment modalities and how to best teach the next generation of surgeons. Immersive virtual reality and its application to teaching, preoperative planning and patient experience are also areas of interest.
