About Adam Fisch, MD, PhD

Dr. Fisch is a subspecialist in Head and Neck Pathology, Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Pathology, Molecular Genetic Pathology, and Cardiovascular Pathology. He received his MD and PhD from the University of Maryland School of Medicine as a member of the Medical Scientist Training Program. Dr. Fisch's longstanding interest in genetics and disease pathophysiology began during his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, which influenced his decision to pursue his graduate thesis work in pharmacogenomics, and ultimately led to a career in anatomic and molecular genetic pathology. Following medical and graduate school, Dr. Fisch completed the anatomic pathology residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the Harvard-wide molecular genetic pathology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and the head and neck and endocrine (thyroid and parathyroid) pathology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear.

Research

Dr. Fisch's research focuses on the tumor biology of head and neck and endocrine neoplasia, as well as the development of innovative methods for improved diagnostics, risk stratification, and therapeutic targeting in the molecular lab. He has published on multiple aspects of head and neck and thyroid neoplasia, including the characterization of salivary intraductal carcinoma, and the presentation of the first cohort of thyroid carcinomas harboring molecular drivers in the FGFR gene family. He is currently pursuing additional studies related to salivary and thyroid tumors, virally driven malignancies, and continues to develop novel techniques for understanding tumor biology from clinically relevant molecular data. He has presented regularly at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), has given invited lectures, and co-authored multiple book chapters spanning head and neck, thyroid, and molecular pathology.
