Research

Dr. Kahle’s NIH-funded lab at Harvard is focused on elucidating the human genetics and molecular mechanisms of pediatric neurosurgical conditions, and translating these insights into improved care for patients. His lab has received international recognition for discovering multiple novel human disease genes, including those causing congenital hydrocephalus, vein of Galen aneurysmal malformation, moyamoya disease, and others. The lab has a particular interest and expertise in the development of the brain's ventricular system, the function of the choroid plexus epithelium, and mechanisms of cerebrospinal fluid homeostasis. His lab's findings are shifting paradigms of disease pathophysiology, and increasing precision in diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment stratification.
