About Rajshri Gartland, MD
Rajshri M. Gartland, MD, MPH, FACS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon with expertise in the surgical treatment of benign and malignant thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal diseases. She commits to excellent and personalized care for every patient. Dr. Gartland's clinical and research interests focus on the practice and advancement of endocrine surgery, particularly through innovative and minimally-invasive techniques. She co-founded and leads the MGH Thyroid Ablation Program and serves as Surgical Director of the NWH Thyroid Biopsy Clinic. As Chief Quality Officer for the MGH Department of Surgery, Dr. Gartland also works with clinical teams to optimize patient outcomes, make care safer for patients and providers, and improve the way patients experience their diseases, treatment, and interactions with healthcare.
Dr. Gartland earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where she was a Canby Robinson Scholar and was awarded both the Kaufman Prize in Medicine and the H. William Scott, Jr. Society Prize in Surgery. She completed general surgery training at the MGH, where she served as Surgical Education Chief Resident, and then finished comprehensive specialty training focused on thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgery at MGH and BWH as a graduate of the Harvard Combined Endocrine Surgery Fellowship Program. During her training she earned a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard.
Dr. Gartland teaches courses at Harvard Medical School and has received national and international recognition for her work. She holds leadership positions in the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American Thyroid Association, and serves on the American Board of Surgery/American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Focused Practice Designation Examination Committee. She is co-editor of the Springer book entitled Endocrine Surgery Clerkship: A Guide for Senior Medical Students.
