About Bill Hucker, MD, PhD

Dr. Hucker is originally from St. Louis where he attended Washington University and completed medical and graduate school. His doctoral work in Biomedical Engineering focused on the cardiac conduction system. He moved to Boston in 2009 for medical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, and served as Chief Resident for the Internal Medicine program as well. He completed general cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at MGH, as well as a postdoctoral research fellowship with Dr. Ellinor investigating the genetics of atrial fibrillation.

His research interests include the molecular mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, arrhythmia models, and arrhythmia mapping systems. His clinical interests include catheter ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias as well as device implantation.

Research

I am a physician scientist and cardiac electrophysiologist with a primary research interest to understand the underlying mechanisms of atrial fibrillation (AF) and its role in the development of heart failure. I began my research training studying cellular biomechanics, followed by my graduate work that focused on the cardiac conduction system. After several years of clinical training, I completed postdoctoral research training studying the role of novel genes that were associated with atrial fibrillation and continue in this line of investigation, hoping to identify new treatments for atrial fibrillation.
