Dr. Powe specializes in treating endocrine disorders, such as diabetes, in pregnancy. She co-directs the MGH Diabetes in Pregnancy Program, a partnership between the Diabetes Unit and the Maternal Fetal Medicine division. She is passionate about providing individualized care to all people with diabetes during pregnancy that takes into account their diabetes type, family history, lifestyle, and values. Dr. Powe conducts research on diabetes and other metabolic disease in pregnancy. Her research mission is to bring the remarkable recent advances in diabetes technology, genetics, and medications to pregnant patients.
Dr. Powe received an A.B. degree cum laude from Harvard College and an M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School magna cum laude. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she also served as Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Powe completed her endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her research program is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Powe is a physician-investigator with a clinical and scientific focus on diabetes (high blood sugar, hyperglycemia) in pregnancy. Hyperglycemia is recognized as a common metabolic problem that has a profound impact on pregnancy outcomes. Dr. Powe's research mission is to bring the remarkable advances in understanding of diabetes pathophysiology, application of diabetes technology, and development of diabetes therapeutics to the obstetric population. Her interdisciplinary clinical and translational research program applies advances in physiologic and genetic profiling, as well as diabetes technologies, to the study of hyperglycemia during pregnancy.
