About Jonathan Friedstat, MD
Jonathan Friedstat, MD grew up in Wilmette, Illinois and completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Northwestern University, graduating with departmental honors. He then received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating as a James Scholar.
He traveled to the University of Washington, where he completed his general surgery residency. While there he developed a passion for the treatment of burn patients, during their acute injury and for their reconstructive needs. This prompted Dr. Friedstat to pursue additional fellowship training in burns and critical care at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Subsequently, he completed a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of North Carolina. In his plastic surgery training he also developed an interest in fixing difficult problems both within and outside of burns, and this motivated him to complete a fellowship in microvascular reconstructive surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr Friedstat's practice focuses the comprehensive treatment of burn patients for both their acute and reconstructive needs. He secondary interest is in the treatment of complex surgical problems and wounds that may require microvascular surgery. He is a member of the American Burn Association and serves regularly on their committees. Additionally he serves as an active scientific reviewer for Annals of Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. His main research interest is in outcomes research for burn reconstruction patients. He is passionate about improving lives for burn patients and is working toward a master in public health from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. He is one of only a few surgeons in the world that are board certified in general surgery, surgical critical care, and plastic surgery.
