Dr. Alaka Ray spent most of her childhood in various parts of the United States as well as in Kolkata, India, before arriving in Boston to attend Harvard College. She then attended Harvard Medical School where her interests ranged from patient-doctor relationships to end-of-life care. During her Internal Medicine residency at MGH, she fell in love with her primary care clinic and chose to pursue primary care as a career. She graduated from the MGH Primary Care Program in 2010, served as the Ambulatory Medicine Chief Resident during 2010-2011, and then joined the Internal Medicine Associates as a primary care physician. She is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and she is the Associate Program Director for Ambulatory Training in the MGH Internal Medicine Residency Program where her emphasis is on enhancing outpatient clinical education. She is also a certified professional wellness coach and enjoys peer coaching physicians around issues of career satisfaction, work-life balance, burnout, increasing efficiency and joy in practice.
