Research

Dr. Macias-Konstantopoulos is interested in research that combines investigation to identify health disparities and programmatic efforts to implement and monitor interventions aimed at mitigating the health care quality and service gaps perpetuating health disparities among people of color, low socioeconomic means, and/or limited English proficiency, and other vulnerable patient populations. Serving as site PI for a large NIH-funded randomized controlled trial, she examined ED-based interventions for patients with substance use disorders, and currently collaborates with the MGH Sexual Health Clinic and MGH Infectious Diseases Division on project grants that investigate and address the overlapping drug and HIV epidemics. She received the 2009 Clinician-Teacher Development Award from MGH to advance her research and advocacy of human trafficking as a global public health issue. She is also the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Academician Award from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine.
