About the Procedure
Massachusetts General Hospital Dentistry maintains a full-service orthodontic staff to serve your family's orthodontic needs—children to adults.
Orthodontic braces or appliances refer to metallic, clear or ceramic brackets and metal wires that are applied to the teeth to correct a patient's bite. The course and duration of treatment are developed by the orthodontist following a comprehensive exam that includes x-rays and creating models of your teeth by taking impressions. In some cases our orthodontists work closely with oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Mass General Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to prepare the position of the teeth prior to jaw surgery.
Our practice also provides a newer method of moving teeth called Invisalign. Invisalign utilizes clear, thin trays that conform to the shape of your teeth and are nearly invisible. This technology can be a good alternative to patients—particularly adults—who wish to have their teeth straightened but may not be able to live with brackets and wires for a sustained period of time.
