STAR is a pediatric obesity management intervention for 6 to 13 year old children with a body mass index (BMI) ≥95th percentile.
10-2-1-0: Healthy Goals for STAR Kids
STAR is a collaboration between Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) and the Department of Population Medicine (DPM) at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. STAR is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Elsie Taveras and HVMA Principal Investigator Dr. Richard Marshall.
- We use computerized decision support tools in the electronic health record (EHR) delivered to primary care providers at the point of care to increase adoption of evidence-based strategies for the management of obesity in children.
- We also provide direct-to-parent support, including telephone coaching and twice-weekly interactive text messages to enhance the clinical efforts.
Services We Provide
Intervention materials are available upon request for no cost. Consulting services are provided by members of the STAR team to support the integration and/or dissemination of STAR components into other programs and interventions. Please contact us for more information and to discuss consulting rates and scheduling.

Funding for STAR was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation(Award #R18 AE000026, Dr. Elsie M.
