Ciprofloxacin (Cipro®), Ofloxacin (Floxin®)
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that is effective in killing bacteria.
Indication
It is used for the prevention or treatment of urinary tract infections when Bactrim is not used.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual dose for Cipro is 250 mg; for Oflax, it is 200 mg. The medicine is taken once daily at bedtime to prevent infection or twice a day for treatment of infection.
Precautions
- This medication cannot be taken with iron, dairy products, antacids or bicarbonate.
- Occasionally, a person will develop a rash on this medication. Some patients will become very sensitive to sunlight; all patients should wear sunscreen.
