For Referring Physicians
The Division of Thoracic Surgery is committed to providing a seamless transition between primary care and tertiary referral. Our physicians prefer to review all relevant referral information, procedures, and tests before ordering additional studies. Duplicate tests will be avoided as much as possible. Radiological pictures along with the reports are preferred. This allows for a better evaluation.
International Referrals
The Division of Thoracic Surgery sees many international patients with unusual and complicated thoracic medical problems. We prefer being contacted by a doctor; however, we will communicate directly with the patient.
As with any patient, our doctor needs to see chest x-rays and scans for evaluation. These can be evaluated before the patient comes to the United States. An in-person evaluation and any surgical procedures are done at the patient's convenience.
The Massachusetts General Hospital Admitting Department has established a reputable International Program. Representatives from the International Patient and Family Center are available to assist international patients and their families with transportation, lodging, interpretation, and other needs. |
