Our Services
You, as a parent, know your child better than anyone else. Massgeneral Hospital for Children practices family-centered care. You are an integral part of the treatment team. We encourage you and other family members to be involved as much as possible in your child's cancer care.
Our services include the following:
- Initial evaluation by the doctor, which includes a careful health history, a physical examination, blood tests, x-rays, scans and other tests depending on the location and the type of cancer
- A comprehensive and personal treatment plan which may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy
- Second opinions

Advanced Treatments
Our center is committed to the development and implementation of an personalized treatment plan that encompasses the latest treatments such as:
- State-of-the-art radiation treatments, including proton beam therapy at the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center, which as access to specialized clinical protocols for specific pediatric cancers such as soft tissue sarcomas and brain tumors
- Access to national cancer institute-supported clinical trials group devoted exclusively to children and adolescents with cancer
Clinical Trials and Research
The MassGeneral CancerCare for Children participates in two organizations devoted to childhood and adolescent cancer research. They are: Children's Oncology Group (COG), and Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium (PBTC).
MassGeneral CancerCare for Children is one of ten founding member academic medical institutions. The PBTC is a unique group devoted to further advancing the care, treatment, and research of brain tumors in children. Some of their innovative strategies include new biological therapies and chemotherapy regimens as well as novel neurosurgical procedures and radiation therapy techniques. Support & Coping
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it has a significant impact not only on the child, but parents, siblings and extended family as well. Our program practices family-centered care. Parents and family members are an integral part of the treatment team and are encouraged to be involved as much as possible.
