Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program
As a result of advances in treatment over the last several decades, there are now an estimated 1.1 million people 18 and older in the United States living with congenital heart disease (CHD).
These patients require lifelong monitoring by cardiologists who understand their unique medical and psychosocial needs at every stage of life, and who can coordinate the multidisciplinary specialists and varied services they require.
Under the direction of cardiologist Richard Liberthson, MD, the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program ensures that adult patients with CHD do not fall through the cracks, but continue to receive the personalized, specialized care they need throughout adulthood, whether they are 18 or 80.
Services are tailored to the individual, but may include education about diet, lifestyle, and exercise; counseling about contraception and family planning; guidance and support around psychosocial issues; assistance with career and insurance matters; and coordination of multidisciplinary care for further medical and/or surgical treatments that may be required because of complications from earlier treatments or new problems.
