The Pre-Admission Program teaches positive coping skills to help children and families cope with hospitalization. All family members are encouraged to participate. Programs are centered around child development and a puppet show that follows a child through his stay is offered to pre-school aged children. School-aged and older children view a video that illustrates what they can expect during their hospital stay. Adolescents may attend the program or arrange for an individual tour if they’d like.
Children also can playfully explore medical materials in a comfortable setting. Tours of the Same Day Surgery Area and inpatient units (including playrooms) and meeting with floor nurses can be arranged. Our Child Life specialists are here to help address each child’s developmental and emotional needs during this time.
The Pre-Admission Program is offered Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday mornings from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For more information please call a Child Life specialist at 617-724-5727 or 617-724-5839.
