  • Thyroid Gland is a butterfly-shaped organ located at the base of the neck in front of the trachea. It has two side sections (lateral lobes) and a connecting piece (isthmus).
  • The Thyroid Gland makes and releases a hormone which regulates metabolism (Thyroid Hormone).
  • There are four pea-sized Parathyroid Glands behind the Thyroid.  They make a hormone which helps the body use and store calcium (Parathyroid Hormone).
