Adrenal Glands
Adrenal Gland: Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, Boston, MA

  • There are two Adrenal Glands, located above each kidney.
  • The Adrenal Gland makes hormones to regulate blood pressure and other body functions; some examples adrenalin (epinephrine) and steroid hormones (cortisone)
  • The Adrenal Gland has an outer layer (adrenal cortex) and an inner layer (adrenal medulla)
  • Cancer of the outer layer (cortex) is called Adrenocortical Carcinoma.
  • Cancer of the inner layer (medullar) is called Pheochromocytoma.
