This picture shows the inside of the stomach. The stomach is between the esophagus and the small intestine. The stomach has many layers. The mucosa is the inner layer. The serosa is the outside layer. Cancer usually starts in the mucosa and grows outwards. The stomach churns food and fluids, the muscles of the gastroesophageal junction and pyloris keep the stomach contents contained.
